What does the Bible say about giving?

When the Israelites collected funds to build the temple, David acknowledged that all the wealth they had gathered to build a house for God's holy name came from God and belonged to him: they were giving what they had received from him. 1 Chronicles 29

Everything is a gift from God, and we are called to be good stewards. The Bible describes giving as an act of worship and a natural part of Christian life. It should be done without reluctance or compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9

The Bible encourages ORDER in our giving, rather than leaving it to chance. We recommend giving:

A regular PLACE

Give to the community you consider your spiritual home. The Lord's house, storehouse and temple are images of the church. Malachi 3:10

A regular AMOUNT

Throughout the Bible, tithing (10% of your income) is a principle. Both Abraham and Moses practised bringing tithes to the Lord. Jesus affirmed it as a good practice. We recommend deciding on a regular amount that you set apart for the Lord and his house. This brings predictability for both you and the church. 2 Corinthians 9:5

A regular TIME

Throughout the Bible, we see the principle of giving to the Lord FIRST. This was a consistent principle regardless of the economic system in place. People were not to give only what was left over to the Lord and his house. This also appears to be a pattern in the New Testament church. 1 Corinthians 16:2
